Track skid-steers, lifts, and generators across distributed yards. Real-time status, CMH accrual, and alerts when an asset leaves its geofence.
The problem
Heavy equipment doesn’t want to be tracked. Skid-steers have no OBD port. Generators don’t have VINs. Scissor lifts get moved between sites without paperwork, and the fleet manager finds out about it three days later from a phone call.
Legacy fleet telemetry — the kind built for over-the-road trucking — doesn’t fit. You can’t bolt a CAN-bus modem onto something with no CAN bus.
What we built
A full stack Echolo deployment across multiple yards of a national equipment operation:
- BLE tags on each tracked asset, picked up by site gateways on a few-second interval
- Gateway hubs at every yard, store-and-forward when cellular coverage dips
- MQTT pipeline ingests every beacon into the Echolo platform
- Fleet as the operator surface — live dashboard, CMH accrual, alerts + rules, on-demand and scheduled reports
The outcome
- Real-time asset visibility replaced the prior weekly CSV export
- CMH accrual became continuous — no more “I think this lift ran 40 hours last week”
- Geofence alerts flag when assets cross a site boundary overnight, within seconds
- Hub health telemetry so the ops team can preempt gateway failures, not discover them via missing data
