## Why we ship it

BLE is the right answer for most of what we track, but it has two limits: range and battery budget on the end device. Once a deployment wants 5 km of coverage from a single gateway, or end nodes that run on AA cells for years, LoRa is the right radio — and the ILH-85 is the gateway we reach for.

The SX1301 is the reference-grade LoRa concentrator. Multi-channel means the gateway can handle the traffic from thousands of sensors without the collision losses you see on single-channel designs. The embedded network server on the ILH-85 means you don’t need to stand up a separate LNS to get started — the gateway can run standalone while Fleet consumes the uplink over any of its backhauls.

## The cellular story

Two SIM slots matter more than they sound like they should. Rural coverage is fickle: the gateway that works on Carrier A at install time can go dark six months later when the carrier repoints a tower. A second SIM on a different carrier, with automatic failover, has saved us on more than one deployment.

## In production

The ILH-85 is the gateway behind our aquaculture, smart-agriculture, and remote-monitoring deployments. A single unit typically covers the whole site. When we do add a second, it’s for redundancy rather than coverage extension.
